Renderbrook Spade was the original purchase by Isaac Ellwood in 1889. It is 120,000 acres located south of Colorado City in Mitchell, Sterling and Coke counties. Renderbrook runs Simm/Angus cows that are bred to Balancer Bulls. Steve White is the current manager of Renderbrook Spade.
Steve was raised in Post, Texas and graduated from Texas A&M University. After graduation, Steve spent seven years working for Spades at the Borden Spade division before becoming the manager of Wagon Creek Spade in Throckmorton County. After 12 years there, Steve moved over to Renderbrook Spade. Steve and his wife Jackie have two daughters, Cheyenne and Schelli and a son Hadley. Steve has been with Spades since 1986.
Pedro Ventura came to work for Spades in 1989, Marty Daniel and Kaleb Jackson have both been with the ranch since 2009 and Cody Jackson came to Renderbrook in 2012.
WAGON CREEK SPADE
Wagon Creek Spade is 18,900 acres in Baylor and Throckmorton Counties. Wagon Creek runs Balancer cows and breeds them to Simm/Angus bulls. Spade has leased Wagon Creek for over 30 years. Neal McLain is the manager. The ranch is habitat to white-tailed deer, turkey, hogs, quail and dove.
Neal McLain grew up in Oklahoma and has also worked at Chappell Spade, Chappell Spade South, both in New Mexico and Panhandle Spade. He has worked for the ranch since 1993. Neal is married to Alice and they have four children: Greg, Kim, Rod and Cooper.
Spade Ranches pastures approximately 800 cows on the Muleshoe ranch owned by the Anderson family in Borden County. Balancer cows are run on Borden Spade and they are bred to Simm/Angus bulls. John Anderson runs the Muleshoe and provides care for the Spade cattle on the Muleshoe.
North Spade Ranch is 76,185 acres on four ranches; Turkey Creek, Turtle Hole, Deer Springs and Bridle Bit, which Spades began leasing in 1999. The ranches are located in Motley and Hall counties in the Rolling Plains close to Turkey, Texas. Half the cattle are Simm/Angus cows bred to Balancer bulls while the other half of the cattle are Balancer cows bred to Simm/Angus bulls. This allows the ranches to trade replacement heifers with one-another in order to maintain that cross and breed composition. North Spade is managed by Andy Falcon. Stewart Urich runs the Turtle Hole camp.
Andy Falcon grew up near Sweetwater, TX and has worked on many outfits spanning from Arizona down to New Mexico and Texas. He has been with Spade Ranch since 2004. He ran Turtle Hole camp for many years before moving to Turkey Creek as the North Spade Ranch Manager in 2014. Andy is married to Debbie and has four sons, Dakota, Wichita, Utah and Prescott Falcon.
Panhandle Spade Ranch is a 22,000 acre ranch in Roberts and Hemphill Counties, Texas; west of Canadian. Panhandle Spade runs Balancer cows bred to Simm/Angus bulls. Jason Pelham is the manager of Panhandle Spade. Before joining Spades he worked for Gossetts Inc., Rocker Ranch in Borden County and the Broseco Ranch. Jason has three daughters, Jessica, Kathryn and Karlie. Jason has been with the spade Ranch since 2002.
Alpine Spade Ranch is approximately 30,000 acres in Presidio and Brewster Counties. Alpine Spade runs Balancer bulls on Simm/Angus cows. Jeff Shipp is the manager of Alpine Spade. Jeff Shipp initially came to Spade Ranches working at Renderbrook Spade. Prior to joining Spades, Jeff worked for the Moorhouse Ranch and the Spires in Texas. Jeff also spent time working in Arizona. Jeff is married to Dorisann and has a daughter Dayla and a son Coley. Jeff has been with spades since 2007.
